The Gamer Club Open Day

These generally run once a month on the second Saturday. You can RSVP/sign up at https://www.thegamerclub.co.uk/openday

Format of the event

I'll be on the door to welcome you in. Everybody gets a name tag when they come in. If it's got a blue/purple mark on it, then it means it's one of your first events in the club - that'll let you see who is also new to the event/club. If there is a little meeple icon (our logo) on the badge, then that is someone who is already a member.

I'll give you a quick tour of each of the rooms, only takes 2-3 minutes to wander around (the venue is a big circle, all the rooms are connected) so we'll end up back were we started (at the front door).

What can I do?

After you've had a quick tour, you can either:

  • Pick up a board game or card game and look for players to join you, or you could join a table of players already there. People usually look out for new players, or let you know how long their current game will last.
  • There is a four player indie game PC in the main room connected to the big TV. That has a lot of 2-4 player games which are great icebreakers. You can play on your own or join in with other players.
  • There are games set up on the PCs in the PC room. You are welcome to log in with your own Steam account (use 'Change account' so it doesn't log out the normal user). Either a solo game or a multiplayer game - there are lots of easy to get going fun co-op games like Left 4 Dead.
  • The TV in the kitchen is usually connected to the Switch, and there are multiplayer games like Smash Bros or Mario Kart. There is also PS1 and Megadrive connected with a lot of 2 player games.
  • The lounge has four different TVs, feel free to grab a game off the shelf and play something. There is a list of couch co-op games.
  • The arcade has a few different cabinets/emulators. They should be open at the menu for games to play.
  • There are chess boards in the kitchen and lounge, setting up a game is usually all it takes for someone to ask to play.
  • There are darts in the PC room, always a good icebreaker, depending how busy the venue is!
  • If you'd prefer something more relaxed, there are some interesting books, comics and graphic novels on the shelves, help yourself and get comfy on one of the couches.
